When you're looking for training consultants, there are a lot to choose from. Some have manuals with excellent illustrations. Others have trainers with years of operating experience. Some have simulators. Still others have extensive on-line content. Many come in and ask lots of questions and give you back what you already know. Others come in and increase knowledge but don't improve performance. Few come in with a standardized process.
What makes our performance improvement and training methods stand out is that we provide a complete training system that is driven by on-the-job performance requirements. Our approach to increasing operational efficiences through training prepares employees for their roles by transferring to them the job-based skills they need in order to be productive in their first day back on the job. We apply a standardized approach that defines what we must do, measure and sign off, an approach that enables us to give you a training solution specific to your site.
We avoid "content traps." More content does not mean more learning. In fact, there is no direct relationship between how much an employee knows and the level of his or her job performance. Our Defensible Training System is designed specifically to prepare workers for high job performance.
We use workplace training methodology for staff training as well as trades and operator training. This surprises some managers in the resource and heavy industry sectors because they think that the training staff requires does not lend itself to a competency-based, defensible training approach. However, we have found that applying this model to staff training works equally well, and in fact makes staff training task-based and results oriented so that it too becomes as accountable and as defensible as trades and operator training.
We bring a solid base of instructional design knowledge to the table. Each of the principals of North Pacific, Jim Tallman and Dan McFaull, has more than 30 years experience in instructional design. Many of those years have been spent applying their expertise to operator and trades training. They systematically pass on their knowledge to our younger associates so that the company gains from the depth of their expertise.
We have experience working with resource and heavy industry workers. We have worked with staff and operators in mines, gas and oil plants, pulp mills, waterfront bulk and container terminals, and power utilities. We know enough about how they think to have learned what kind of training they learn from the best.
